Chapter 113

Chapter 75 Part 1

Yan Hang was completely sleepless that night. Usually when he had insomnia, he would try to move as little as possible if Chu Yi was by his side, but tonight it didn’t matter. From the sounds of it, Chu Yi hadn’t slept well either.

In the middle of the night they chatted for a while, but when morning came, Yan Hang couldn’t remember clearly what they had talked about. That’s how nights were sometimes - you’re clearly awake the whole time yet can’t recall how the night passed.

When they got up in the morning, there were dark circles under Chu Yi’s eyes. Insomnia was especially obvious on those not used to sleepless nights. Yan Hang felt he looked much more spirited in comparison.

“I’m a bit...anxious,” Chu Yi said, looking in the mirror after washing up. “And I can’t...eat anything.”

“I can’t eat anything either. I’m skipping breakfast,” Yan Hang nudged him aside and splashed water on his own face. “We’ll see after getting the formalities done.”

“Mm,” Chu Yi responded.

“You don’t need to be too anxious,” Yan Hang said, drying his face. “Your dad won’t be in too much trouble.”

“How do you know?” Chu Yi sighed.

“Does your dad have the guts to stab someone?” Yan Hang asked.

“He wouldn’t dare,” Chu Yi mused.

“If he didn’t stab anyone, then it won’t be a big deal,” Yan Hang said.

“Mm,” Chu Yi murmured.

After that, neither of them spoke again.

Chu Yi looked at Yan Hang leaning on the sink, lost in thought. He didn’t know what Yan Hang was thinking - only that if old dad hadn't stabbed anyone, then the only one who could've done the stabbing was Uncle Yan, and Old Ding was dead.

Thinking further made him unwilling to continue down that train of thought. He didn’t understand the law and didn’t dare speculate blindly. Even less did he want Yan Hang to speculate.

He went over and put his arms around Yan Hang’s waist, pressing his face against his shoulder.

“Want me to smooth your fur?” Yan Hang asked.

“I’ll smooth yours,” Chu Yi said, rubbing against him.

“Oh,” Yan Hang laughed. “Rub me a couple more times and I’ll be nice and smooth.”

It took Chu Yi a couple seconds to react. “What the...hey!”

“Your handsome little brother,” Yan Hang said.

Chu Yi laughed but didn’t reply, closing his eyes.

He didn’t know why, but suddenly he felt a little sleepy just standing there with his eyes closed, not wanting to move.

They didn’t leave the bathroom until Cui Yi’s phone call came through to Yan Hang’s cell.

“He said to come straight down. He’s parked downstairs,” Yan Hang said.

“Mm,” Chu Yi nodded and followed him out the door.

The weather today was pretty good. Maybe because he hadn’t slept all night, the sunlight outside that hadn’t fully spread out yet made his eyes feel swollen.

“Chu Yi, you didn’t sleep well?” Cui Yi asked.

“Didn’t sleep,” Chu Yi said, somewhat embarrassed as he rubbed his eyes.

“Worrying so much is useless,” Cui Yi said. “Kid.”

Chu Yi smiled wryly.

Luckily grandpa and grandma didn’t know about this yet, or he wouldn’t have slept at all, afraid of worrying the elderly couple.

Whenever he thought of grandpa and grandma, he would suddenly think of mom and granny and grandpa. They already knew dad had been arrested. What were they thinking and doing now? Would they be anxious and try to find out more? Or really not care at all like they claimed?

“Uncle Cui,” Chu Yi looked at the back of Cui Yi’s head. “For my dad...isn’t it half a month for, for the results?”

“If he didn’t do anything, it won’t take too long,” Cui Yi said.

“Then what if he did do something?” Chu Yi asked again.

“Depends on what he did,” Cui Yi replied. “Whether he was an accomplice, if he continued committing crimes while on the run, if his confessions will be adopted...it’s complicated to explain. Don’t worry about so much. With Little Bai handling the criminal case directly, just leave it to her and rest assured.”

“I thought we could rest assured with you too,” Yan Hang said with a smile.

“If you two ever get into financial disputes with others,” Cui Yi said, “then come find me.”

“I only have 3 thousand yuan total,” Chu Yi said. “If I disputed over at most 200 yuan with someone, probably wouldn’t amount to anything.”

Cui Yi laughed. “Able to crack jokes, looks like you’re psychologically resilient.”

“More of a conditioned reflex for him,” Yan Hang said with a smile.

The kickass lawyer sister’s surname was Bai. Cui Yi called her Little Bai, while Yan Hang and Chu Yi called her Sister Bai.

Sister Bai was not as imposing as Chu Yi had imagined female lawyers to be. She seemed quite gentle with a smile always on her face.

Chu Yi didn’t know what this procedure was all about, only that he had to sign mom’s name.

“This is my expertise,” Chu Yi said.

In elementary school, the teacher always required parents to check homework and sign it. No matter who in the family did the signing, it always resulted in annoyance. So Chu Yi always signed mom’s name himself.

He signed it better than mom did.

Pen in hand now, he felt a bit shaky, wondering if it was due to nerves. But the signature still came out very similar after years of practice.

“I’ll head over right away to try and get this done quickly,” Sister Bai said. “Don’t worry.”

“Thanks for the trouble, Sister Bai,” Yan Hang said.

“No trouble at all,” Sister Bai replied. “Used to it.”

It wasn’t until around noon that Chu Yi started feeling a little hungry. Catching a whiff of the aroma floating from a nearby restaurant, he said, “Should eat...lunch now, right?”

“Mm,” Yan Hang looked at him. “Hungry?”

“More or less,” he rubbed his stomach. “Should we call Uncle Cui...to eat with us?”

“He went to the office,” Yan Hang said. “We’ll treat him and Sister Bai to a meal after this is over.”

"Alright," Chu Yi nodded.

After taking care of the paperwork today, Chu Yi had been wandering the streets with Yan Hang. Usually he didn't like crowded places, but now he only felt grounded when he was somewhere lively.

Perhaps it was because his attention could be divided and his thoughts more easily interrupted when he was just wandering aimlessly.

"Auntie Bai is probably meeting my dad right now, right?" Chu Yi checked his phone.

"If she took a rocket there, then she'd definitely be meeting him right now," Yan Hang said.

Chu Yi laughed and sighed.

"Do you want to eat at an all-you-can-eat seafood place?" Yan Hang said, "There's a pretty good one up ahead."

"Expensive," Chu Yi shook his head, "Let's save money."

"How much could an all-you-can-eat cost?" Yan Hang said.
