Chapter 45

First Day of Work

Chu Sui was originally about to fall asleep, but the System suddenly bumped him, waking him up directly. His head ached as if it had been kicked by a donkey. He sat up straight with a rustle, finally realizing that Arno was trying to trick him into talking, and pulled his leg back. "Why are you asking so much?"

Chu Sui looked a little wary. Arno paused, withdrew his hand, and his gaze swept imperceptibly over the employment form hidden behind Chu Sui's back. "I'm very sorry, Male Master. I was just worried about you."

Chu Sui got up from the sofa and pouted, "What is there to worry about?"

He hadn't considered at all that even if he managed to hide the matter of working at the Military Department today, he wouldn't be able to hide it in the future. He just wanted to muddle through one day at a time. Chu Sui had a gut feeling that if he stayed with Arno any longer, he would definitely let something slip, so he simply went upstairs to his room.

Arno watched his back until the sound of the door clicking shut. Only then did he retract his gaze. He slowly got up from the floor, a thoughtful look in his eyes. He still couldn't figure out why Chu Sui wanted to go out and work. He checked the StarNet financial account and found that the balance was still quite large, enough for a Male Zerg to squander.

It wasn't for money, so what was it for?

Many of Chu Sui's recent actions were unexpected. Arno couldn't necessarily guess the reason for every single one, but he wasn't in a hurry. For so many years, the best thing he had learned to do was to be "patient."

After all this fuss, it was about time. Arno took off his military uniform jacket, hung it on the coat rack, rolled up the sleeves of his white shirt bit by bit to his elbows, and walked into the kitchen to start cooking.

Chu Sui liked to eat some rather obscure pastries that weren't sold outside and were very troublesome to make. In the past, unless Chu Sui specifically asked for them during meals, Arno rarely made them on his own initiative. To most Male Zerg, Male Monarchs were merely slaves. All they needed to do was obey orders.

Arno recalled how angry Chu Sui had looked just now. Those black eyes were sparkling and lingered in his mind. He always felt that Chu Sui was different from other Male Zerg, but he couldn't pinpoint how. The thought just popped up in a daze, and he still couldn't find an explanation for it.

When Chu Sui returned to his room, he threw the employment form directly onto the bed, just short of grilling the System. He looked furious. "It's all your fault for making me find a job. Great, now I almost got caught."

After speaking, he fell onto the bed, covered his face with a pillow, and rolled back and forth several times. Finally, he lay there motionless, his heart filled with despair.

The System floated quietly above, really wanting to correct him. It wasn't 'almost got caught', but rather 'already caught'. But it felt that would be a bit contemptuous of Chu Sui's intelligence, so it switched to a more tactful phrasing: [Even if he doesn't find out now, he will in the future. You're both working at the same place. Besides, you're bored at home anyway, so going out to work to pass the time is good too.]

Chu Sui: "I'm just bored, not so bored I have nothing better to do."

There's a qualitative difference between the two, okay?

Chu Sui wasn't very capable, but his self-esteem was quite strong. He felt like he had lost face completely. Looking at the entire Zerg Race, which Male Zerg would go out to work? If word got out, people would surely laugh their heads off.

'His young master temper still hasn't changed,' the System thought, 'This will take some grinding.' It didn't try to persuade him further, only warning him: [You can't expose me next time.]

Chu Sui glared at it. "Are you a bedsheet? Who would care to shake you out."

The System huffed, and its body instantly dissipated into the air.

Chu Sui was still worrying about what to do about work tomorrow. To be honest, this was truly the first time in his life he was going to work. Worries aside, he was also faintly excited and a little antsy.

When Arno finished cooking and brought the food upstairs, Chu Sui was sitting in front of his Light Computer looking up information. He heard a soft knock on the door from outside, guessed it was Arno, and was still angry about him trying to trick him earlier. "What is it?"

Arno said from the other side of the door, "Male Master, dinner is ready."

Chu Sui: "Not hungry."

Hearing his reply, Arno raised a faint eyebrow, not looking disappointed. "I made your favorite pastries."

The room was silent for a moment. Whether it was three seconds or ten, Chu Sui's voice finally sounded: "Come in."

Arno entered, holding a tray in his left hand and pushing the door with his right. He saw Chu Sui sitting at the desk, the Light Computer displaying some game interface. He paused, the corners of his lips hooking up imperceptibly, then placed the tray on the desk. "Male Master, please have your meal."

Chu Sui pretended to be playing a game, giving a perfunctory "mm-hmm" at his words. He glanced surreptitiously at the pastries on the tray and found they were his favorites. He immediately dropped the cold act and shamelessly began to eat.

The food of the Zerg Race was very different from that on Earth and not as refined. These few pastries were relatively close to a human's palate, a bit like rice cakes with an unknown filling inside. Chu Sui couldn't tell what it was, only that it was sweet and had a grainy texture, similar to red beans.

If there was a chance, running a food business among the Zerg Race would probably be good. Too bad Chu Sui only knew how to eat, not how to cook. There was some truth to sweets improving one's mood. Chu Sui had a childish disposition; he was easy to anger but also easy to appease. He had eaten half when he noticed Arno was still kneeling to the side. "Go and eat yours."

Arno saw that more than half of the pastries in the dish were gone. He seemed to smile, but it was too quick to catch. "It's alright, I will serve you while you dine."

Chu Sui glanced at him. "You're not hungry?"

Arno said in a low voice, "I have already taken a Nutrient Solution."

Military Females raced against time when fighting on the front lines, so they obviously didn't have much time for food and drink. Nutrient Solution could restore their stamina to the greatest extent. It was a finger-length tube of green liquid. Chu Sui had once drunk one out of curiosity; it was more disgusting than Chinese medicine, making his tongue bitter and numb.

Thinking of this, Chu Sui thought carefully. He seemed to have never seen Arno eat a meal at home. Could it be that he had been taking Nutrient Solution all this time? How boring. Putting himself in their shoes, he sometimes felt that the life of a Military Female was utterly devoid of pleasure. It was one thing to face life-and-death situations on the battlefield, but they also weren't liked by Male Zerg, were beaten at night, worked during the day, and now didn't even enjoy delicious food. What was the point of living?

It was the first time Chu Sui had thought about such a problem. The thought suddenly popped into his head, and even he found it strange.

He shook his head, feeling pity for Arno's life, then enthusiastically picked up a piece of pastry and held it to his mouth. "Here, try it."

This is much tastier than that damn Nutrient Solution.

Chu Sui's action made Arno's pupils contract for a moment. He stared at the light pink, diamond-shaped pastry on the Male Master's fingertips, his thoughts unknown. After a moment, he leaned in and slowly ate the pastry from Chu Sui's hand.

A slight dampness touched Chu Sui's fingertips. Against Arno's thin lips, which were colored like rouge, the contrast of red and white was stark and somewhat bewitching. He couldn't help but stare, mesmerized, until something soft and warm, like the tip of a tongue, gently brushed past his fingertips. Only then did he subconsciously pull his hand back.

Arno glanced at him, then pulled out a napkin to wipe the pastry crumbs from Chu Sui's hand. "Thank you."

Chu Sui let him, sitting cross-legged on the chair looking a little lazy. "Was it good?"

Arno smiled and then nodded. "Yes."

Chu Sui had expected as much. After all, the Nutrient Solution was so disgusting. He saw that there were still a few pastries left on the plate and said nonchalantly, "You can have them."

Arno didn't move. His long, strong knuckles still supported Chu Sui's hand. His voice was sincere. "Male Master, I'm sorry for prying into your privacy just now. Please punish me."

'Why can't we just get past this?' Chu Sui thought, automatically ignoring the last sentence. "Then don't ask so much."

Arno slowly closed his fingers, clasping Chu Sui's hand in his, though the latter was oblivious. "Sorry, I thought you would be working at the Military Department, Male Master. Otherwise, we could commute to and from work together every day, which would be more convenient. So I just wanted to confirm."

He had figured out Chu Sui's temperament. He didn't say anything else, just focused on the matter of commuting together, silently disarming his vigilance.

Upon hearing this, Chu Sui's expression relaxed slightly. Seeing that Arno didn't press him on why he was going to work at the Military Department, he felt less resistant. He just rubbed the back of his neck and said vaguely and ambiguously, "I guess so."

A flash of understanding passed through Arno's eyes at his words, but it didn't show on his face. He just praised him in a low voice, "You are very amazing."

Chu Sui's ears twitched at his words, and he was suddenly interested. "Hm? How am I amazing?"

Arno said unhurriedly, "The interview at the Military Department is very difficult. The fact that you were willing to work and successfully got the job already proves your diligence and excellence."

If Chu Sui had a tail, it would be wagging very proudly right now. He hissed, feeling puzzled. 'When did Arno become so silver-tongued and savvy?' he thought. 'In the past, he only knew how to say "Yes" and "Please punish me." He was cold, dull, and uninteresting. Now he actually knows how to praise people.'

Chu Sui pouted. "Are you trying to trick me?"

A hint of a smile seemed to flash in Arno's blue eyes as he said in a low voice, "I swear to the Zerg God."

Chu Sui had to be handled with care; the more you went against him, the more out of hand things would get. Under the double brainwashing of the System and Arno, his acceptance of this job finally increased a tiny bit. When he went to bed that night, he had already started secretly planning his schedule for the next day.

Chu Sui had just finished his shower and was sitting on the edge of the bed, lost in thought. The tips of his ink-black hair were still dripping wet. Seeing this, Arno walked over and began to dry his hair with a towel, his touch gentle and slow. "Male Master..."

Chu Sui came back to his senses and glanced at him, bewildered. "Hm?"

Arno's long fingers straightened his hair. "Do you want to play some games for a while?"

Chu Sui usually played a few rounds of games before sleeping. 'I have to work tomorrow,' he thought, shaking his head. "Not playing. Sleeping."

It seemed he was really taking this job seriously.

Arno looked on thoughtfully and placed the towel aside. He knelt silently by Chu Sui's leg, then reached out and unbuttoned his own clothes. His muscles were well-proportioned, glowing with a cold, jade-like luster, and possessed great beauty. He said in a low voice, "Male Master, may I serve you?"

He vaguely remembered that the Male Master had said he liked proactive ones.

The topic jumped too much. Chu Sui hadn't reacted yet. "Huh?"

Arno looked at him quietly, then slowly approached him. Seeing no look of disgust on Chu Sui's face, he lightly placed a cool kiss on his lips, like a dragonfly skimming the water, and whispered ambiguously, "Let me serve you tonight, okay?"

Chu Sui understood his meaning almost instantly. His eyebrows raised slightly. For a moment, he felt like the sky was raining red, which was a rare sight. After all, Arno had never been this proactive before. He wavered between conserving his energy and the Male Monarch's active invitation, but ultimately chose the latter.

It didn't matter, his kidneys were strong.

Chu Sui glanced at Arno, then reached out and pulled him from the floor into his arms. Their bodies were already familiar with each other. Pressed tightly together now, there was not the slightest bit of awkwardness. For a moment, they could even feel each other's heartbeats, and the temperature in the room gradually rose along with them.

"Male Master..." Arno reached out and clung to Chu Sui's neck, his eyelashes trembling slightly, as if he didn't know what to do.

Chu Sui turned off the bedside lamp. Using the hazy moonlight, he rolled over and pinned Arno on the bed. He didn't move immediately, but propped his head up and asked with great interest, "Why so proactive today?"

Because they were in darkness, Arno's eyes were veiled with a layer of shadow, but it didn't diminish their magnificence. He gazed at Chu Sui, his silver hair scattered on the pillow. "Do you like it, then?"

Chu Sui didn't speak, just leaned down and kissed him. His excitement seemed higher than ever before. Arno caught the pheromones filling the air, his body temperature gradually rising, and his breathing becoming uncontrollably heavy. His clear voice suddenly became hoarse and unbearable. "Male Master..."

Chu Sui rarely took the time to respond. His gaze swept over Arno's firm and beautiful abdominal muscles as he placed hot, intimate kisses on his ear, slowly nibbling his earlobe, the tickling sensation making one's body tremble. "Do all Military Females have a body as good as yours, hm?"

Arno was teased by his pheromones until he was a mess, his whole body turning as soft as a puddle of water. His eyes were slightly bloodshot, and he tilted his head back weakly, his vulnerable Adam's apple exposed to the air. His daytime composure was shattered piece by piece, and his voice whimpered in a plea, "Male Master... I beg you..."

He was like a dying fish out of water, struggling powerlessly, but everything he did was in vain.

Zerg Star had no four seasons, only changes between cold and warm. The nights at this time were already a bit chilly. Chu Sui pulled the blanket over them, shutting out the creeping cold.

Intricate patterns glowing with a faint golden light gradually appeared on the side of Arno's face, but they disappeared not long after. Chu Sui caught a glimpse of the ancient, mysterious pattern and repeatedly rubbed his fingertips on the side of his face. "What is this?"

Arno panted, his blank mind finally regaining some clarity. He looked at Chu Sui at his words, his blue eyes shining in the darkness, and then said in a somewhat stunned, low voice, "It's the Zerg Pattern..."

Besides when their power is in a riot, Female Zerg will show their Zerg Pattern when they are aroused. But most Female Zerg find it difficult to get pleasure from this kind of thing, so few people know about it.

Chu Sui didn't know either. He just thought it was pretty, asked once, and didn't bother with it again. He leaned down and kissed Arno's flushed lips, stuffing all those broken whimpers and sobs back down.

He still remembered that he had to work tomorrow, so he didn't fool around too late, just moved the location from the bed to the bathroom.

Arno was still in a daze. Hot water poured down from above, blurring the mirror along with it. He could vaguely see himself covered in kiss marks, held in Chu Sui's arms with the corners of his eyes red. His light blue eyes were moist, and for a moment, he felt like a stranger.

Was that him?

Arno had never seen himself in such a state.

Seeing him dazed, Chu Sui casually brushed his hair. "What are you thinking about?"

Arno came back to his senses and shook his head a beat too late. He turned off the shower, took the towel from the side, and began to gently wipe the water from Chu Sui. "Let me help you get dressed."

Remembering he had to work the next day, Chu Sui lay back on the bed to catch up on sleep. He was woken up at seven in the morning the next day—not by an alarm clock, of course, but by the System.

System: [Get up, get up, time for work, time for work.]

Chu Sui didn't have the habit of waking up early. Being suddenly woken up made his head buzz with pain. He was in agony and directly grabbed a pillow and threw it at the System. "What are you hollering for so early in the morning!"

The spot beside him was empty. Needless to say, Arno was definitely downstairs making breakfast.

The System said: [Dear host, I just wanted to remind you to remember to go to work.]

Right, I still have to work.

Chu Sui scratched his hair, and for once, he didn't stay angry. Instead, he slipped out of bed to brush his teeth and wash his face, then quickly got dressed, much like an office worker from Earth rushing for the morning peak.

Arno had just finished making breakfast. He glanced at the time and saw it was almost Chu Sui's usual wake-up time. He rolled down his shirt sleeves and was about to go upstairs to help him dress and wash up when he saw Chu Sui run downstairs like a gust of wind. He quickly went forward to stop him, his voice surprised, "Male Master?"

Chu Sui gave a random "mhm". "Is breakfast ready? I'm going to be late."

Arno said, "It's ready. Sorry, I thought you would wake up at your usual time, so..."

Chu Sui waved his hand, indicating he didn't mind. He had no sense of time and just felt the earlier he got to work, the better. Even his eating speed was much faster than usual. Seeing this, Arno gently pressed his hand. "Don't rush. The Flyer can reach the Military Department in ten minutes with acceleration. You still have half an hour."

Chu Sui paused at his words and swallowed the food in his mouth a beat later. He was finally not in such a panic. He wiped his hands with a napkin, saw Arno standing beside him, and said, "Sit down and eat with me."

Arno looked at him upon hearing this, his voice calm. "Male Master, this is against the rules."

Chu Sui almost wanted to say 'I am the rules'. "I said sit, so sit."

So slow.

Arno had no choice but to sit down opposite him. When Chu Sui saw he wasn't moving, he glanced at the plate on the table. "Eat."

Arno had no choice but to eat with him.

Male Zerg always liked to look down on Female Zerg from a superior position, so the latter rarely stood up. Even during meals, they could only serve from the side, let alone eat at the same table. Chu Sui didn't have this hobby; he just habitually went with the flow.

After finishing breakfast and boarding the Flyer, there was still more than ten minutes to spare. Chu Sui, who had been loafing around for so many years, was working for the first time in his life and felt a little nervous inside. As he was spacing out, his collar was suddenly tugged. He came back to his senses slightly, only to meet Arno's blue eyes. "Male Master, you've buttoned your shirt wrong."

Chu Sui looked down and realized that he had been in too much of a hurry this morning and had misaligned the buttons on his shirt. Just as he was about to unbutton and redo it, Arno had already straightened it for him. His eyes were lowered, his expression serious and aloof, making him look extremely abstinent.

Chu Sui glanced once, then looked away.

Arno had originally wanted to ask which department he was in, but then felt it was unnecessary. He could find out with a little effort anyway, so why displease Chu Sui? He carefully straightened his clothes, then smiled. "Sorry, I will wait by your bedside earlier next time."

Chu Sui didn't think it was a big deal. "I can dress myself."

Getting dressed didn't really take much effort; he was just lazy before.

Arno nodded and went along with his words. "Alright, then should I wake you up in the future?"

This time, Chu Sui's tone was quite certain. "Wake me up at seven-ten."

As they spoke, the Flyer had already stopped at the entrance of the Military Department. The soldiers on duty from yesterday had been replaced. Arno deliberately fell half a step behind, following Chu Sui off the Flyer, ignoring the shocked or surprised gazes, and spoke to him in a low voice, "Male Master, do you need me to take you to your office?"

'Being a record clerk isn't exactly a glamorous job,' Chu Sui thought and quickly shook his head. "No need."

Arno seemed to have already guessed his answer and wasn't surprised. He just smiled. "You've been to my office. If you need anything, you can find me there, or contact me via Light Computer."

His attitude of not prying made Chu Sui feel comfortable. He nodded at his words. "Got it."

There were many Light Elevators going upstairs. They parted on the first floor. Chu Sui took the Light Elevator in Area C to the place of his interview yesterday. Unlike the empty room from yesterday, there were five or six Female Zerg working inside. So when Chu Sui knocked on the office door, they all looked over in unison.

Chu Sui's appearance was undoubtedly a big plus for him. In the past, a faint aura of hostility always lingered around his eyes, but now it had faded a lot. When his face was expressionless, he actually looked somewhat serious and reliable, making it impossible for any zerg to look away.

Gulp—

The Female Zerg in the office couldn't help but swallow in unison. Although they had long heard from Group Leader Morei that an A-rank Male Zerg had been hired as a record clerk and were mentally prepared, they were still dazed when they saw him in person, inexplicably feeling as if a pie had fallen from the sky.

To have such a handsome A-rank Male Zerg as a colleague—if word got out, other departments would probably be green with envy.

Seeing that no one was paying him any mind, Chu Sui knocked on the door again with his knuckle. "Excuse me, is Group Leader Morei here?"

He was still an Earthling at heart, with a slightly different way of thinking from the Zerg Race. He felt that since he was coming here to work, it was better to be polite. Besides, on the way here, the System had repeatedly warned him not to put on airs—

It made sense when he thought about it. This place was full of Military Females who had been on the battlefield and shed blood. It was better to tuck his tail between his legs and behave himself on someone else's turf.

As soon as his voice fell, just as the other Female Zerg were about to get up and answer him, Group Leader Morei came in from outside carrying a teacup. He glanced at Chu Sui, seeming rather satisfied, and adjusted his glasses. "Your Excellency is very punctual."

Getting praised on the first day of work, who else could do it!

It was as if an invisible tail was wagging happily behind Chu Sui. "It's what I should do."

Group Leader Morei led him to a desk inside, sorted out a small stack of files for him, taught him how to log into the official database, and then said, "Your Excellency, for now, please enter these materials. If there's anything you don't understand, you can ask Como. He's my assistant."

Como was flattered to hear this and stood up from his seat. Suppressing his excitement, he said to Chu Sui, "Your Excellency, I'd be happy to be of service."

Chu Sui nodded, thought for a moment, and added a "Thank you."

The latter heard this and for a moment thought he was having auditory hallucinations. His steps felt unsteady, and he sat down in his seat as if in a dream. Heavens, when did a Male Zerg become so polite?

Group Leader Morei had been busy with recruitment matters recently. After explaining a few things, he left the office again. Chu Sui was quite a fast typer. He glanced at the documents and found they were judgment documents from the Military Court regarding verdicts on some Military Females who had violated rules and regulations, which needed to be entered into the database and archived.

Chu Sui finished entering the data in no time. During this period, the colleague in front of him would sneak glances at him from time to time, feeling that the usually harsh and old-fashioned Group Leader Morei had finally made an incredibly correct decision.

Seeing Como sitting not far from him, Chu Sui snapped his fingers to get his attention. "I'm done entering."

Como immediately came to his senses, surprised by his speed. "Ah, so fast?"

'It's all from practicing by playing games,' Chu Sui thought. He asked Como, "Is there any other work?"

'I can't let Chu Sui do anything too tiring, and there's nothing simple for now,' Como thought. He was scratching his head, trying to find some materials for him to enter, when a brown-haired Female Zerg suddenly ran into the office and said to Como, "Is Group Leader Morei here? Two Field Officer Military Females in District 12 got into a fight. He's needed to go over and help take statements."

Como subconsciously cursed and almost jumped up in anger. "Zerg shit! Can't they just behave for one day!"

The Zerg Race was belligerent, not to mention the batches of Military Females who had retired from the battlefield. They were incredibly hot-blooded. Fights happened almost every day. Coupled with different factions and no one willing to submit to another, serious cases would even end up in the Military Court. The clerks sometimes needed to record the cause and process of events so their superiors could mete out punishment or use it as testimony in court.

Ordinary soldiers were manageable, but if they were ranked generals, it was a different story. They could flip a table and beat you to a bloody pulp in minutes. In just a few short months, several clerks had already been tragically injured by accident. Otherwise, the Military Department wouldn't have been in such a hurry to post a job advertisement.

In the past, Group Leader Morei always went to handle such matters. Now that he wasn't here, Como had to fill in. Just as he was preparing to pack up and go, he heard Chu Sui ask, "Taking statements? I can do that too."

He had not yet realized the seriousness of the situation.

Como subconsciously wanted to refuse. Chu Sui was a Male Zerg. What if he was accidentally injured by that group of brutes...

Hm?

A Male Zerg?!

He didn't know what he had just thought of, but his eyes suddenly lit up astonishingly. He looked almost ecstatic, rubbing his hands as he asked Chu Sui nervously, "Your Excellency... Your Excellency, do you really want to go?"

'Isn't it just taking a statement?' Chu Sui thought. 'How hard can it be? It's a good chance to get some fresh air.' He stood up from his seat and said, "Let's go."
